In this heartfelt tribute, Vittorio Storaro recounts his 25-year journey with Bernardo Bertolucci on film sets, followed by another 25 years devoted to preserving, restoring, and reprinting the ten films they made together. It is both an account of their creative collaboration and a reflection on the friendship behind it.

During the challenging months of the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Vittorio began the project “Vittorio Storaro on Bernardo Bertolucci’s Films.” That undertaking culminated in this beautifully crafted volume, inviting readers into the cinematic world they created together.

The project extends beyond the book. An accompanying photographic and cinematic exhibition showcases Vittorio’s double-exposure images captured while shooting the films. It also includes masterclasses exploring the three figurative themes of the Storaro–Bertolucci films: Light, Colors, and Elements.

Under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the undertaking is being promoted as an Italian State Project. At its heart is Vittorio’s promise to restore and preserve their ten films using state-of-the-art digital and optical technologies at the Cinecittà Laboratory in Rome, reflecting his enduring commitment to the legacy he shared with his dear friend Bernardo.
