A Huey helicopter hovers just above a scaffold tower while a crew member below signals with raised arms. A precise, risky moment from the set of Apocalypse Now, where aircraft and crew worked within a few feet of each other.

Why it matters. Vittorio Storaro was the cinematographer of Apocalypse Now (1979), directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film won him the first of his three Academy Awards for cinematography. Very few people have seen the film from his side of the camera.
